Marion Chesney, who has died aged 83, was a dizzyingly prolific novelist best known as the creator, under the pseudonym MC Beaton, of two detectives who translated successfully to television: the phlegmatic policeman Hamish Macbeth and the rebarbative amateur sleuth Agatha Raisin.Ī small, elegant Glaswegian totally devoid of pretension, Marion Chesney preferred to call herself an entertainer rather than a writer. ![]()
